This study provides access to worthwhile and challenging mathematical learning in a way that takes into account the interests, needs and aspirations of a wide range of students. Across the various units students develop the ability to make effective use of mathematical concepts, processes, skills and technology in both practical and theoretical contexts.

The following VCE Mathematics Units are available to study:

• Foundation Mathematics Units 1 and 2
• General Mathematics Units 1 and 2
• Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2
• Specialist Mathematics Units 1 and 2
• Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4
• Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4
• Specialist Mathematics Units 3 and 4

There are no prerequisites for entry to Units 1 and 2, however, students undertaking Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2 or Specialist Mathematics Units 1 and 2 are assumed to have a sound background in the Year 10 Mathematics topics of number, algebra, function, geometry, probability and statistics.

* For this combination of units, students who do well in Foundation Mathematics could progress to Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4 only if supplementary study is undertaken. It is a possible pathway, but not recommended.

 ** For this combination of units, students will need to undertake some supplementary study with respect to assumed knowledge and skills for Specialist Mathematics Units 3 and 4.
